Tower
After reading every word on Terra Genesis, I went shopping. My first shopping spree landed me with a piece of foamcore. Expensive, but I was in love. The material is so easy to cut and yet it is strong and versatile. I decided to try to make a large, ruined tower similar to the one shown on Terra Genesis.
This is the front of the tower before cutting out the windows and the door. Before reaching this stage, I had to decide on the size of my tower. As you can see, I have drawn the door and the windows. What I actually did was to make a small paper sample of a door and a window. Then I used my faithful pencil to etch the form onto the foamcore.

This picture shows the tower from the ruined side. Notice the ruined stairs going almost to the second floor. I am quite proud of those stairs. They were made by using part of the foamcore cut out from the windows. I added a turn to allow the miniatures to stand somewhere on the stairs. You can also see the carrepairmesh used for the "glass" windows - and the holes I have punched in them, tearing them to simulate battledamage. As you can see, I am using a double layer of foamcore. This way the wall looks realistically thick and I can add electrical cords and plastic rods to illustrate that it is really a ruin.

This is a picture of the tower from the front and side. In the middle of the side I have tested the "blast" effect. I am sure it will look much better with a bit of paint added. Notice that I have carved the door out of the outer layer of foamcore. Then I have added a cardboard door, in which I have carved a design supposed to look like a wooden door. We will see when it is finished...

I've spraypainted the entire structure black. Then I've been drybrushing, first dark grey, then lighter grey and then a beige/tan color, to make the building look like sandstone. I've tried to create a blastmark, but it still needs improving. I decided to make the spikey decorations black with a little silver highlight.

A look inside the tower reveals the ruined stairs and the rubble. I used greys and a little blue to drybrush the stairs and the floor, as I wanted them to stand out from the tower. I am still working on handpainting the rubble to make it look less like a blub of kitty litter painted grey and more like rubble... I also need to paint the windows with silver to make them stand out more. Oh, and then I need to base it properly. I guess this tower will take forever to finish!
