Quonset Hut
by Luxor
This is a simple project but has an impressive look.

MATERIALS
The materials will build 2 huts for each full sheet of Corrugated Roofing. The cost will vary, from eight to ten dollars US. Cut the Roofing in half. Cutting across the ridge. For a cleaner strait cut, cut from the revers side. You just need to make a deep score line then snap-it, like dry-wall. Carefully bend the plastic card by running it across the edge of a table. This will help keep its shape. Cut a card base 14cm x 28cm, you want the wave of the middle layer to face the narrow ends {/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/}. Measure 3cm in from each corner and make a mark. Cut from one mark lengthwise, through the top layer of card only, following a groove made by the corrugation. Repeat for the other side. Pry up the edge of the cut. Dry fit the plastic card into the cardboard slots. You should have and arch about 4 to 5 cm high. Fill the slots on the card board with glue and put the plastic card back in. When dry trace the outline on the back of the lap siding for each end. Cut the shapes out with scissors and trim until the fit snugly, recessed 5mm from either end and cement in place. To make a door cut a piece of card or scrap lap siding 4cm x 3cm and snip the corners off at 45 angle between 5-10mm. This will give you that airlock look. Glue in place with the smooth face out. Add embellishments; windows, gun slits, aerials, etcetera. Prime black and dry brush this will give it that hard lived look. Add detail paint flock, sand, rocks, crates, walls, or what ever suits your creation.
Caitlin's notes:
I am making two similar huts myself, inspired by the shelters in the Wargamers Terrain book by GW. I am using one-sided corrugated cardboard for the roof, which is available from better giftshops as wrapping material. Also, some hobby shops stock it. It is cheaper than the plastic corrugated metal roofing and comes in a roll.
