Walkways
Primarily useful for Necromunda and Warhammer 40K, walkways are good terrainpieces, but hard to make really goodlooking. Here are some of the ideas:
Cardboard walkways
I have previously constructed my walkways primarily of cardboard. This is not a great idea and I recommend using one of the other methods, unless you are very careful with the storage of the walkways. My walkways suffered more from being packaged than from being played with. I used cardboard from frozen foods and cereal. The "bulkheads" supporting the walkways are created from boxes of approximately 3" size. I cut the box in slices of about 1" thickness. The bottom and the top was strong enough to support the walkways on their own, but the slices from the centre of the box needed support, so I glued a cross of cardboard in the middle of these. Then I spraypainted the structure black, glued on the yellow-and-black stripes and considered the walkways done. Wrong move! Of course the walkways warped. So... I added kebab skewers as supports under the walkways. Of course I should have done this from the beginning. And then I should have added structure to the walkways, making them more three-dimensional.

These walkways are very similar to the Archaic Bridge. Simple to make and efficient - my personal favourites.

Balsawood walkways
I have created a simple walkway by taking a balsawood strip (about 2" wide) and gluing on pasta. Yes, pasta! The kind of pasta which looks like pipes with a bit of decoration. Then I've spraypainted it black and drybrushed it silver. I am working on the rusty look...
Walkway Supports
I am working on walkway supports for Necromunda walkways, inspired by pictures in official GW materials. This is the template I am using for the supports:
Each
support is made from two pieces of foamcore by using the template and making
one inner side and one outside. I've made two supports and I am joining them
by a 4" long, 3" wide floor - this will be covered in barrels etcetera
to provide cover for the ground crews.. Between the supports I am going to use
long sprues in a cross-section, supported by card in the centre...
Please note that this support is designed to fit the GW standard walkway, which is just short of 2,5 inches wide - but will only fit properly if your standard Necromunda buildings are placed on a 1/4" thick base. If not, you will need to change the measurements accordingly (i.e. the middle part will be 1/4" shorter).
