Always Winter
Written by Jennifer Small, December 24 2000
This poem was written by my oldest daughter, Jennifer, the day before
Christmas, her first without Cassy. She wrote about her feelings since
her baby sister, Cassy died. Cassy was barely 20. Jennifer was 27 when
she wrote this poem. I think she conveyed her emotions beautifully.
The earth is so much colder now that you are gone
Spring will come,
The chill will stay
As if it was just yesterday.
It seems your love warmed my world
When you left, so did my sunny days,
Green grass, flowers
And though they will come to the rest of the world
It will always be winter in my heart.
I come in from the snow and ice
But the chill doesn’t go away
I wish you were here to melt the ice away
In my heart,
It would be spring every day.
Maybe some day,
I’ll think of you
And feel the warmth
I once knew.
